Vitamin D is needed by most adults and children to control the levels of calcium and phosphate in the human body. These nutrients (calcium and phosphates) are important to keep your bones, muscles and teeth strong and healthy. Not enough vitamin D can lead to bone deformities for children, and pains in your bones as you get older.
During late spring and summer, most adults and children should be able to obtain enough vitamin D from the sunlight and being outside, as the body makes vitamin D from sunlight falling directly on the skin.
But during the autumn and winter months we do not get enough vitamin D from sunlight, so a Vitamin D supplement is very important.
